    B/ MAI-CHAN'S MAILBAG
This month’s mail has been answered by *fireflywishes XD

Quote by sailorchironHey Mai-chan! Last month was Halloween, so I thought I'd ask what your favorite type of candy is? What about the other elites and the mods, do you know theirs? Mine is Milk Duds...mmm...carmel.

I also thought I'd ask what your favorite feature of the new layout is? It's so awesome, I bet a lot of people would have a fav part! I adore the little porings, and the super-customizable userpages. Hey, you should harass someone to make you a cool new userpage! Hayashinomura has done some pretty sweet pics of you that could be used!

Nyaaaa~ Mai-chan's favorite candy is anything cute and sweet like her! XD

As for the rest of the Staff...
fireflywishes: Anything with chocolate and almonds~! om nom nom....
Kitten: Hmm, fave candy...for sure it's a Milk Chocolate bar...
Sheqel: I'm not really a candy person, lol. Is chips a candy? XD
kayurachan: WHITE CHOCOLATE! (damn I love it.. T__T)
Chloe-chan: I love chocolate, so I guess my favorite chocolate would be Ferrero Rocher
Bernouli: Uhhmmm, hmm, I like Sour Patch Kids. So I like to eat children. @_@
vitaamin: Lindor white chocolate truffles yo :D
    bromithia: Reese's!
MapleRose: Wow that's hard to decide XD uh.. I'm gonna say Hershey's cookies and cream chocolate
Fran: My fav candy is dark chocolate with almonds~! Quite similar to Firefly's :3
Tama-neko: Ooh, that's a bit of a tough one, I'm a sucker for sweets. However, I can always go for bittersweet dark chocolate squares (65%+ cacao).
DarthTofu: Meiji Fruit Drop Hard Candy. <3

As for Mai-chan's favorite feature... it's so hard to choose just one! Mai-chan loves everyone's new userpages... vitaamin made her a spiffy new userpage- It makes her heart feel happy. Go check it out!

    ------------------------------
This world is a vast place, yet it seems so small when two people connect so well. How is it that two people who are so similar are able to find each other in this big world? Our story begins on a cold and wintery day. A young girl stumbles into an unknown world known as Minitokyo. Drawn at first to the vast sections of anime knowledge, the girl enters the world, unaware of the many events that lie ahead of her...

    Episode One: The Introduction Forum

Wow, this looks like an awesome site! So many scans, and the layout is super cute! Let’s see…join…stuff…stuff…what should my name be? Something bell. AngelBell. No wait, TwinkleBell! Is there anyone named…NO! It’s mine, okay so now I’m TwinkleBell at Minitokyo! Now, what else…forums…introduce myself…the Introduction Forum…new thread, here I go!

“Helloooooo MT! I’m TwinkleBell, I’m new and I hope to make a lot of friends here that love anime as much as I do! I like Bleach, Naruto, Tsubasa, K-On, and a ton of other stuff I can’t think of right now LOL. Um, okay, that’s all. xD”

I hope that made sense! Darn, I should have put that I like Black Cat! And KHR! AND VAMPIRE KNIGHT! Can I add to it…wait, there’s a response?

“Welcome to Minitokyo, TwinkleBell. Make sure you read the Policy and FAQ!” –Kitten

An elite member, huh? I wonder what that means? Policy, FAQ, that’s a lot of reading, I’ll do it later. Maybe I should make an avatar? Everyone has an avatar, Kitten’s is really cute, I want one like that! Lemme see…no, no, no, PERFECT! Okay, save as a .gif…upload…I’M SO CUTE! Oh, I was going to update the animes I like in my post…OOO ANOTHER REPLY!

“Konichiwa, TwinkleBell! I’m DeviantIchigo69. I’ve been on MT for a while so if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Do you want to join Rabid Bleach Fans http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab98/MT-Maigetsu/Kitten/19_E_04.gif? It’s our Bleach fan group. We take our love of Bleach seriously.” –DeviantIchigo69

DeviantIchigo69? *giggle* What a cute kinda weird name! Let’s go look at his page. Wow, I want a user page like this, it’s so awesome! Kinda hard to read though… You can have a picture of yourself? He's so cute...I need to add a picture! I’ll use the super cute one from Facebook, I hope he likes it~ Oh, those must be the groups he was talking about! Do I just click? Rabid-Bleach-Fans…how do I—click to join, that makes sense, *click* YEAH! Now I’m a member of a group! This is awesome! I’m going to look at his page again, he had other group button thingies I think… Add to friendlist? ...Should I? Is it too soon...? I’m doing it! *click* I think I’ll leave him a message in his guestbook so he remembers who I am.

“Hi DeviantIchigo69! I went and joined your group, and added you as a friend, hope that’s okay! Okay, ttyl! xD”

    To be continued...

    STAY TUNED FOR NEXT MONTH!
Will DeviantIchigo69 and TwinkleBell be mutual friends? Just how cute is her cute picture from Facebook? WILL SHE READ THE POLICY AND FAQ?! Find out in the next episode of As The Shoutbox Refreshes!

    F/ ANIME SPOTLIGHT

    http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab98/MT-Maigetsu/vitaamin/19_F_MT419584.jpg

Yuki finds herself wondering why a bike parked outside the school starts moving when it suddenly transforms into a ... panda?! Suddenly she's in the middle of a battle between the owners of these ugly yet irresistibly adorable monsters.

For fans of Furi Kuri, Atsuya Uki has created the whimsical, slightly insane yet delicate short film Cencoroll. Uki certainly did an impressive job adapting his manga background for the big screen. While the 30 minute length leaves little time to fully develop a complex plot, Uki rose to the challenge with remarkable grace. Cencoroll never felt rushed and while none of my initial questions were answered, I found myself utterly satisfied with the ending. With a little bit for every watcher--action for the boys, two nonchalant semi-bishies (wink wink) for the girls and poetic storytelling for anime-snobs like myself--Cencoroll is a roller coaster that won't make you dizzy.

Moreover, in true stroke-of-genius fashion, Uki is able to capture a stylized art form and sound to give Cencoroll a voice of its own. The movements are of choppy but fluid quality and the sound blends perfectly into the production's texture. As expected for OVAs and the budget they normally receive, the drawings never seem half-assed. But unlike others, Uki is able to capture his manga roots within each snapshot, transition and moving scene. The result? A short film that lulls viewers into its sci-fi core with an unnatural serenity for its genre.

With such a short duration, it is well worth your time to see this lovely anime, which reassured anime-lovers that cartoons are not just for kids!

    Eureka 7 (2005)
While I've only watched 10 episodes of this wildly popular series, I fully understand the charm. It certainly watches like your prototypical shounen, but Eureka 7 comes somewhere in the ball park of The Place Promised in Our Early Days in its promise of true epic. With lovable characters--Holland and the crew, not Renton and Eureka who are both tired replicas of over-abused protagonist figures--it still sits a bit on the generic side. Still enjoyable none the less.

G/ GET TO KNOW YOUR MT STAFF
This month's interview was conducted by *Bernouli.

Hey, everyone! Bern here slappin' another cool interview on ya' o) This month we're interviewing sailorchiron!
    --------------
What do you like to do mostly on MT?
Hmm...probably check out all of the new wallpapers. I like to see what animes are popular, what techniques are being used...and if people are following policy.

What is one of your favorite/best memories about Minitokyo?
When I was offered the chance to be an elite member. I love MT and was thrilled that I'd be able to help out more, and it gave me a chance to work with some people I've really wanted to get to know.

What is the first anime you ever watched? What was your impression of it?
Sailor Moon! I was totally stoked that there were cartoons that were a) pretty to look at and b) about chicks that kick butt. My sister mentioned "when you're home in the afternoon, you should watch Sailor Moon..." and it all been downhill from there...

    RANDOMNESS TIME!

Do you have any strange habits / pet peeves?
Too many to list here...but the biggest one is that I HATE other people's spit. I can't share drinks. Ever.

    What is your favorite food?
I love salty/sour foods the best, so green olives.

If you could be anyone else for one day, who would you be and why?
I'm actually pretty okay with just being me everyday, so I don't think I'd trade places with anyone.

What is your most favorite movie of all time?
Princess Mononoke! It's also the first anime I ever owned.

What kind of pets do you have, or have had in the past?
Right now I have 7 cats. *facedesk* Some of them belong to my sister and my roommate, but that still means there are 7 pair of glowing eyes staring at me in the dark to put food in their bowls.

Do you speak any other languages besides English?
When I graduated from college I was conversational in German. I DREAMED in German sometimes. But, not having anyone to speak German with...I've lost it.

And lastly, got any advice for out aspiring little wallers our there?
Ask for advice. Post in the Sandbox. Talk to other wallers to get ideas and learn techniques. Never stop learning. Study well-respected artists. It never hurts to ask someone for help!

    -------------------------------------
That concludes this month's "Get to Know Your MT Staff!" Remember minna-san, if you have a member of the staff that you'd like to know more about or would like to submit a question, send it to Mai-chan with the subject heading "STAFF INTERVIEW"

    H/ FEATURED MEMBER

    http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab98/MT-Maigetsu/Kitten/19_H_05.png

Having enjoyed her fun-loving and hilarious comics for the last few issues, the MT staff would like to honor hayashinomura for her remarkable contributions to MTM and the general community. Hayashi is a member from Indonesia who loves to draw in her spare time (or while in class), making a name for herself in the Doujinishi Art category with her bold, black lineart. Her work often features exquisite designs layered over her own twist to the baroque genre. Best of luck, hayashi, for 2010!

    http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/ab98/MT-Maigetsu/Kitten/19_I_01.png

http://static.minitokyo.net/groups/mt-gay-straight-club.gif In this day and age, it's shocking for our generation to experience discrimination in the face of ever expanding openness to race, gender and sexual orientation. Though popular media has seemed to embrace these ideals, matters of identity have yet to be fully explored both in the context of homo- and heterosexuality. We have chosen to feature the MT Gay-Straight-Club because their mission of awareness and inclusion stands as an example of how a new generation will tackle the evolving issues confronting the disenfranchised of today and tomorrow.

The colors and style work perfectly, it has a Nouveau feel but a modern edge to it. The vectoring is done beautifully. Doing anything with Green Glass artwork is a challenge, and this is a wonderful result.

Dynamic and full of color! Working on an completely unexpected canvas and yet such a daily element: an envelope. Who wouldn't want to get a letter with such an exquisite design? With a confident use of the space and tools, this is something you have to check.

It's always nice to see members who still use traditional media... There's something about pencil and paper (or watercolors or markers) that just makes me smile. Especially if they're used to draw such beautiful bishies! Give AnGee's whole gallery a look while you're at it... You won't be disappointed!

I love the colors and how Sashi worked on the scan. As in all of her walls, the hair is gorgeously detailed and her painting is very neat. The colors contribute a lot to the mood of the wall and bring out the character. Also a background is present! The window is a beautiful addition and is placed just right to bring the whole dramatic feeling out.

Bold black lineart, Alice-in-Wonderland coloring--everything about this piece screams Pandora Hearts with a vengeful twist. A fantastic job from HatterCharles to announce her original story.

    A/ RECENTLY IN MINITOKYO...

Last Month's Issue in case you missed it in all the craziness...

    - Our cute little dango identifying Elite and Highlighted Gallery items have been replaced by porings created by shigemitsubaki! Aren't they cute?

-You will now receive notifications from any thread that you have participated in in the past week regardless if you are the threadstarter or not. ^_^
    -----------------------------

    Draw a Staff Member Event!

Oh, yes... you read that right. With all of the recent changes around here (the result of our creative juices), we thought maybe all you artists out there could use a little fresh inspiration as well! This is your chance to show us what you think we look like! XD

    Rules:
    - Please be kind! ^_^;;
    - This is not a contest... just a fun little event for members who may be looking for some inspiration.
    - You may use information gleaned/gathered from the Staff members' pages or the Shoutbox, but please do not PM Staff members directly.
    - Standard gallery rules apply here (No mature content! >.<)
    - HAVE FUN. We're all super-excited to see what you come up with!

    Submission:
    - Submit your artwork to the gallery and then send a link to it to fireflywishes via PM. (We'll figure out details for this later... maybe have a specific Staff member feature section in MTM...really depends how many entries we get...)

    List of Staff Members:

    Admins/Mods:
    moderators

    Elites:
    elite-members
(NOTE: Since vitaamin is shy, she requested not to be drawn.)

(We're excluding Mai-chan from the Elites because she's already had a chance to be drawn... Don't worry, we'll come back to her at some other point in time... ^_^)
    ------

    B/ MAI-CHAN'S MAILBAG
This month’s mail has been answered by fireflywishes~ are you sick of me yet? XD

Quote by melymayWhat does "maigetsu" mean?

Thanks for writing in melymay! "Maigestu" translates to "every month" ('mai'=every, 'getsu'= moon;month). When we first started the MTM, that was our goal for this newsletter-- one per month. We had a short period of inactivity, but now with our newest crop of enthusiastic Elites and Mods we hope to get back on the monthly schedule again. ^_^

Quote by nikko3Mai-chan! XD I have a suggestion to make! Why don't you send a welcome letter to newly signed up member in MT? The letter would bear your name because you are the Ambassador of Minitokyo. The contents should written a simple greeting and a reminder to check out the MT policy, rules and regulations of MT, guidelines and etc. If they have any questions, please forward them to the famous Mai-chan! XD

By doing these, new members would have pay more attention to read the policy and such before they even "try" to commit any "crimes" in MT. Just like when we are signing up for a new email account. When, we finish the procedure of signing in, we will find a welcome letter in the inbox from the host account.

Thanks again for your suggestions nikko~ This idea has already been discussed amongst us Mods (and Sheq!), but due to the time constraints of Real Life, we haven't had time to come up with a draft. Probably next vacation I'll try and get on it.

Quote: How about starting a goodie redemption program in exchange of credits?

You may start with a simple avatar, signature image to a customized userpage layout. Charged a credit fee for each following goodie. An avatar image may cost 300 credits and stated that one member could only redeem one goodie in the period of 3 months. If you want to know who's gonna make them, it's either the Moderator or the Elites because this is a luxury that only those with lots of credits can enjoy! Between, to make it super hard, you can request lots of credits in returns for your service! XD A customized userpage layout could reach 2,000 credits! Now, that's fun! XD

Whoa, whoa... thanks for volunteering the Staff members to make them, but like I said last month... we're all just regular people with regular jobs. Personally, I like the current system where members are helping each other just for the sake of helping-- not because they're expecting something in return. Don't worry, we're trying to figure out a way for people to use up their credits faster (One possibility is to use them to "pay" for group advertising space on the main page), but thanks again for your suggestion.

Wallers - You are working on your latest masterpiece, and you feel that it is your best work to date. Suddenly, Photoshop crashes, and you forgot to save! You can only stare at the screen and cry as Photoshop is unresponsive to your pleas.
Your Lucky Number: 127238 tears shed

Doujin artists - Halloween is over, and you barely managed to finish that Halloween-themed picture for this year by sacrificing sleep and valuable anime-watching time, phew. Time to start the Christmas project, so that you won't be rushing to finish it, which you will probably end up doing anyway.
Your Lucky Number: 55 days to procrastinate

Vector artists - You decide to attempt that complicated scan with 23534 frills and 256245 beads. As you work into the wee hours of the night, you fall asleep in the middle of working with the pen tool, and dream of the vector coming to life to eat you.
Your Lucky Number: 8237854 vector nodes attacking you in your dream

Scanners - After scouring the imageboards all night, you end up with a hoard of images of scantily-clad anime girls, score! You decide to share with the world (aka MT), by posting all the scans, only to have them deleted for mature content or being duplicates.
Your Lucky Number: 73 deleted scans

Forum goers - You're grateful for the new shoutbox, yay a chance to chat more easily! And then you realise that people don't care what you say. So you get mad and go on a spamming spree or start a flame war, only to be caught by a moderator and muted.
Your Lucky Number: 168 spam posts made

Review writers - After spending 20 or so hours of your life marathoning a crappy 50-episode series, you decide to warn others not to bother with this boring piece of crap by writing a review on it, ranting about how everything in the series sucked, only to realise that people don't care. Why did you finish watching it if it sucked so much then?
Your Lucky Number: 20 hours of your life wasted

Lurkers - You're in need of pretty pictures. After spending all of your free downloads, there are still many pictures you want on your hard-drive, so you proceed to spend all the credits you've saved up.
Your Lucky Number: 0 credits left

Rippers - You think you can sneak away with posting something that you didn't make, hoping to fish for compliments, and that nobody will notice the signature on the wallpaper that is clearly not yours.
Your Lucky Number: 1 warning from a moderator for ripping

    E/ ANIME SPOTLIGHT

    http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y97/dray_dray/edeneast.jpg

After reading rave reviews on today's title, Eden of the East, I decided to take a few days to see what all the fuss was about. The first episode opens as Saki stands in front of the White House, launching stones from outside the fence onto the open greens. The police promptly accost Saki, but she is saved by an unknown man, running around naked while waving a gun. The story then follows their adventure back to Japan and into his history which has been erased from his memory. To complicate matters, he has been gifted a cellphone that connects to a woman who can grant any wish a human could dream of, requiring only that the wisher uses his funds to become the "savior of the world."

While I can certainly understand the initial appeal of this series--a title full of average-looking, everyday folks caught in a mysterious battle usually signals a story saturated with magic realism that depends less on sensationalism and more on depth and criticism to wow its audience--I have to say that Eden of the East quickly fell into the usual traps. Much like Speed Grapher(2005), which promised to offer a more mature take on corruption and government, Eden of the East sets up a strong, interesting plotline but was both too short and too slow-paced to follow through on its promise. One strand of the story looks at a cruel serial killer who seems somehow connected to the mysterious cellphone and stumbles with what I can only describe as mediocre and stereotypically shallow execution. The ending, which was clearly meant to ensue in utterly epic proportions, fell flat, both plot-wise and visually. Meanwhile, a story like Eden of the East that struggles fiercely to become a masterpiece, typically warrants dynamic and creative directing; needless to say neither was present as far as I can see.

But for all its shortcomings, Eden of the East still ranks above average in its enjoyability and execution. The ED and OP were quite enjoyable, and I can clearly tell that production hired very interesting creative directors for both sequences. The voice acting, while unspectacular, demands little criticism. The animation was purposefully "just decent" though I would have enjoyed better camera angles and choreography. Furthermore, with just 13 episodes, it's worth the time to watch if you are interested in a series that doesn't fall as close to the stereotypical drivel that we are used to by now. Many viewers may even attribute more depth and better execution to this series than I have.

A timeless masterpiece this is not, but Eden of the East can still be very enjoyable. Its brevity contributes to a lower rating on my part, but certainly still makes it worth watching on a Saturday afternoon. If you are looking for a better series from Kenji Kawayama though, this one is DEFINITELY not representative of his talents (see Seirei no Moribito or Ghost in the Shell).

F/ GET TO KNOW YOUR MT STAFF

    Minna-san, ohisashiburi desu ne~
fireflywishes here to bring you a SUPER special interview with our System Admin, yorhel!
    -----------------------------

+First of all, who ARE you? What does the System Admin do?

Simply put, my job on MT is to make sure Sheqel can do his work and that MT stays online. I make sure that the necessary software is installed and working, and that Sheqel has access to the files, database and some important statistics. I also help out with keeping MT fast (slow websites are horrible~) and keep backups of everything to make sure MT doesn't completely dissappear in the event of a HDD crash or bankruptcy of the hosting company. (as has happened before...)

+How did you get involved with MT? Were you ever into anime or did Sheq just trick you into helping out? ^_~

Haha, no, Sheqel never tricked me into doing anything (at least not that I am aware of >.>). I do know that I met Sheq before I learned about Minitokyo, but I can't remember whether he was already working on MT at the time we met or whether he only had plans to make such a site. Anyway, we both shared a similar interest in both web development and anime, so I've been following the development of MT ever since I learned about it, and occasionally made some small contributions (like fixing things on the server or a bit of database maintenance). But I only got "officially" involved with MT around summer 2008, when MT switched hosting and I offered to take over all the sysadmin tasks.

+What kinds of things do you do when you're not keeping the site from exploding?

Keeping my own sites from exploding. :-P
Luckily that doesn't take much of my time, so I do have more hobbies: Building/maintaining websites, writing (open source) software, walking the dog, long distance inline skating, and of course watching anime and playing visual novels.

+Sheq mentioned that you have your own visual novel website. What can you tell our readers about it? What IS a visual novel? Is it like a dating sim game?

Visual novels are anime-style games with a lot of text and often very little to no gameplay. Many popular anime and manga series are based on a visual novel, most notable series being Air, Kanon, Clannad, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Tsukihime, Fate/stay night, Utawarerumono, Chaos;Head and many, many others. And just like how anime adaptions of manga are (in my experience) often not as good as the original manga, the original visual novels often provide a better experience than their anime counterparts. Seeing how there wasn't any English site or resource about visual novels, I decided to make one on my own: vndb.org. The site is similar to anime or manga databases like AniDB, AnimeNewsNetwork (without the news), and MangaUpdates.
    ---------

    +Random questions:

+If you could be anyone else for one day, who would you be and why?

Not sure I'd want to be someone else, I'm pretty happy just being myself. :-)

    +What is your favorite food?

Hmm, Tortellini? Or rice with chicken and teriyaki sauce? Can't decide. I like most easy to cook food.

+What are the top 5 songs you're loving right now?

Drudkh - Eternal Turn Of The Wheel
CROW'S CLAW - Assault Attack of the Silver Dragons
    Machinae Supremacy - Sidology 2 - Trinity
    Falkenbach - Baldurs Tod
lug00ber - Not with the olive branch

(That last one really doesn't fit in the list, but is awesome nonetheless)

+Do you speak any other languages besides English?

My native language is Dutch. I've also had 3 years of classes in German and French and have made a half-hearted attempt to teach myself Japanese in the past, but I've forgotten about everything I learned from that.

+How many other countries have you traveled to?

Hmm, haven't left this country in the past 3 or 4 years. But before that I used to travel with my family, almost always to Southern Europe (France, Italy or Croatia).

+ And finally, for all of the single ladies out there... are YOU single? XD

Yes. ;_; (But I'm not a huge fan of long distance relationships...)

The MT Staff would like to recognize melymay as the MTM Featured Member for November. With the switch over to the new layout, she has been so generous with her time helping other members reconfigure their layouts. However, this should come as no surprise. As one of the Mods over at Userpage Skin Designs, melymay has spent much of her time helping other members with their userpage questions as well as creating userpages for members. She has also been instrumental in keeping the sig/avatar request thread going. Thanks again for everything, melymay... and keep doing what you're doing!

The typography in this piece is very nice, and we don't see too much of that around here. The swirls on the trees are great, and go well with the whole 'roundness' I think the wallpaper is trying to convey. This style definitely deserves a little more attention in my book. =)

    Retirements and Promotions
If you haven't noticed already, we've had a recent slew of retirements! We neglected to mention the retirements of unicorn2006 and littlejonny100 in last month's issue. Joining them are EternalParadox, Spystreak, and Marissa. Thank you all so much for your years of hard work and dedication to the site. We'll miss you!

Additionally, the MT Staff would like to welcome MadoshiKurefu to the Elite Squad!

    More on Tags!
-When adding tags, all parent tags from those tags will be added automatically. For example, when you add C.C. to a submission, it will automatically add girls, Code Geass, green hair, long hair, and brown eyes as well. As such, it is preferred that you add at least the character tag when submitting a submission.

-The user that added a tag to a submission is now shown in a tooltip when you mouseover the tag in the left menu. Tags automatically added as explained above will inherit owner as well. Some tags will not show a user as it has not been logged until recently.

    We have a Shoutbox?
Yes! We now have a shoutbox! In order to see it and participate in it, please go to your Control Panel>MT Options> Show Chat Lounge Threads and Shoutbox>Yes. Then come and join in the fun! (It doesn't automatically refresh, but trust me, I'm bugging Sheqel about it... ;))

    New layout- IS UPON US.
Love it? Hate it? Let Sheq know about it! XD

Also... we are currently emoticon deprived. (and that makes firefly sad!) If you're interested in making emoticons for the new layout please contact Sheqel via PM)

    B/ MAI-CHAN'S MAILBAG
This month’s mail has been answered by fireflywishes

    Quote by nikko3Dear Mai-chan,

Thank you for answering my question regarding "Request Signature/Avatars here" thread. :) I found another thread which seem to be inactive. This is it: http://forum.minitokyo.net/t38753 I hope someone is able to answer those member questions. Its seem no one is there for them weeks ady.

No problem, that's what we're here for. I tried to contact exentric, the original creator of the thread, and she has yet to get back to me. (Seems like she's busy with university) I'll try to keep you updated, but in the meantime, if you have any userpage questions, feel free to check out MT's very own userpageskindesigns

Quote: Instead of interviewing the staff of MT, why don't you choose someone who really involved in the manga and anime industry? Like seiyuu? Or someone who involved in a manga/anime production? Mangaka would be very nice too. Or someone who really aspire to become one. This person might not be a member OR a member of MT.

Just want to know more about the variety of people that involved in this industry. Not just stick to the staff only.

An interesting idea nikko. If we had the time and were working on this site for a living, I'm sure that we would be able to seriously consider this request. However, the reality is that we are just regular people with regular lives working regular jobs (or going to school) who help out around the site when we have free time. Just getting out an issue every month is a struggle sometimes (as you can see by the delay between Issue #15 and #16) But if you know any Seiyuu who would like to be interviewed then by all means we'll be happy to interview them. Though, keep in mind that since this IS a newsletter about MiniTokyo... it would be nice to keep the content relevant to the site. :)

Quote: I have a suggestion for the usage of credits. Because it is accumulated for participating in MT. And sometimes, it is exceeded the amount that I need to use. I thought of donating some of the credits to those who need them. Well, if you want to know more about how credits should reward to and who can donate them. I can do that but please let me know what do you think of this idea of mine? Thanks!

Well, the idea has been brought up amongst us Mods before. At this point, it is still under consideration. We've gone over the pros and cons, but to be realistic it's probably not going to happen any time soon.

    ------

    C/ ASK BOTCHII!

Quote by sailorchironI remember that you had a sister named Freya who hung out at MT. Is she still around?

Ah, you must be talking about botfreya, our less-known sister. Yeah she's still lurking around. She doesn't talk much though, and you probably don't even notice her. Unlike me who's always busy doing stuff around MT, or Mai-chan who's working to put together this newsletter, botfreya just occassionally helps out the moderators when they need to test out something. The most she's done is probably with writing the Popular-chan articles (by being the guinea pig, haha). Okay okay fine, she's not all that useless. She's actually pretty nice, and takes care of me and Mai-chan when we get too busy to take care of ourselves XD

    E/ PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC!

    http://i38.tinypic.com/292ph1l.png

It can’t be denied that Shiina Ringo has earned her rank among Japan’s most talented in the music industry, and with the release of her fourth original album Sanmon Gossip ("Superficial Gossip"), she continues to prove to us why she’s on top.

Picking up where the tracks of her 2007 self-cover album Heisei Fuuzoku (“Japanese Manners”) left off, Ringo presents us with songs she crafted alongside her band Tokyo Jihen (“Tokyo Incidents”) from the six years since her previous original release. The thing that’s different about this album is how she brings us a new side to her – instead of the edgy and hard rock sounds we’re used to hearing (like Honnou, Tsumi to Batsu, Koufukuron, etc.) she gives an album full of variety, ranging from songs that are completely mo-town, to others with rapper Mummy D spitting his game over the track, to the emotionally powerful lead single Shun (Season). The album certainly has a much more playful tone to it, evident in the song Futari-bocchi Jikan, created specifically as the theme to a Japanese children’s show. The only fault one could say of the album is it being too ambitious – cramming too much into a single entity, but the songs on their own make for easy listening and an at least interesting if not enjoyable experience.

Sanmon Gossip is representative of a Ringo that doesn’t need to use controversy in order to gain attention; rather, it’s an album of her being stripped down to the core, where she shows us her true colors, not shielded by a façade.

F/ GET TO KNOW YOUR MT STAFF

Hi everyone~ Another issue, hooray! Lets interview our next Elite member; gaara-no-shukaku! (Note: This month's interview was conducted by Bernouli!
    -----------------------------

    1. Who introduced you, or how did you come across MT?

No one. I happened to find it through Google or some other anime-related sites. I can't really remember that well. >_<

    2. What do you like to do mostly on MT?

Mostly I'd just go browsing the gallery; both art and scans section. I also enjoy using my leet power, so basically adding deserving artworks to elite gallery or even propose some of them for highlight. :3 And most of all, I love sharing my artworks here - especially after receiving some good feedback from other members.

    3. What did you first think of MT when you discovered its existence?

I thought it's a cool site to get some wallpapers and scans, and to post my crappy first-time walls XD
    ------
    Random question time!

    4. Do you have any strange habits / pet peeves?

I think one of my pet peeves is that I get easily annoyed being in crowded and noisy places. Hm, I don't think I have any strange habit anymore though, but.. I used to like biting my nails. >_<

    5. Do you play any video games? If yes, list your favorite systems/games. :D

I used to play some, mainly Nintendo and PlayStation games. Oh, of course I looove playing Pokemon! XD

    6. Have you ever traveled very far from home or to another country?

Yea, I've been to Egypt once - for studying purpose, though it was only for a short time.

    7. Seen any good films recently?

Nah, I haven't seen any films in awhile. I'm not a movie watcher anyway. Though I still watch anime movies sometimes, mostly from Naruto (and Pokemon! >_<)

    8. What's your favorite food and drink?

Hmm, I can't think of a certain favorite food right now, but mostly I like eating anything that has chicken in it. As for drink, I enjoy milk as well as flavored ones like chocolate or strawberry milk. And also Bandung drink, it's a mixed of milk and rose syrup. It's a very common drink here in Malaysia.

    9. Ok and lastly. You make great wallpapers and you have your own kind of style that you add to them. Any word of wisdom you'd like to give to our members and future wallers of MT?

Keep making wallpapers for MT's sake, lol. Also try to develop your own style or concept in your wallpapers. Explore your creativity, be inspired from others' wallpapers and stick to MT's Policy.

    -------------------------------------
That concludes this month's "Get to Know Your MT Staff!" Thanks again to Bernouli for conducting the interview! Morphee has really pushed the envelope of abstract walls here at MT with this piece--interesting textured shapes break the smoothness and flatness of Yusuke Nakamura's art. The attention to detail--the colored lines that flow and ebb with the background shapes--also bring a level of professionalism. Simple and clean, this wall remains anything but simplistic or empty with well placed and well executed vector shapes and vibrant colors.

Smooth vectoring, soft colors and just a touch of texture make this wallie awesome. I love the setting and the birds add a nice touch. The scan Nona chose is both cute and a little freaky, which leaves the wall open to our own interpretations ;D

I'm always amazed at how Fran managed to use various patterns into a wallpaper. This is yet another great addition to her gallery that shows transformation from that small plain-coloured scan to a vibrant yet detailed wallpaper, filled with pretty patterns. The simple-looking background works stylishly, complementing the yellow-green colour scheme. Full-view and enjoy this as your next desktop wallpaper. ;)

I was drawn to this wall by the text, how it falls together so naturally, yet it looks so delicately balanced that the word pyramid could collapse at any minute. The idea is very creative (and I admit, I found it slightly funny, despite the image), and the message is clearly sent using the stark contrast of black/white and bold text.

    More changes around MT
    Article written by fireflywishes

    - You can now add members to both your friendlist AND watchlist.
    - Guestbook posts will no longer merge.
    - The 'Self Scanned' tag has been reverted to the old 'Scan Source' dropdown on the submission page. All submissions in Self Scanned have been updated to be 'Self Scanned'.
    - Text overlay is allowed on color scans now; e.g. magazine covers. (Vector techniques nowadays are much better at restoring the image)
    - Browsing by resolution is possible, a resolution drop-down menu is added in the browsing options.
    - Inserting a url to a submission in any post will convert it into a thumbnail.
    - We have a new tag system. And thus we have compiled this handy userguide~!
    ------------------------
    Userguide to the Tag System

+Where is a list of all of the series?
Link. Note the links to sort them either by popularity or name.

    +How do I add a tag to a submission?
There is a box in the left menu bar where you can add tags. As you type, suggestions will come up, so if you're not sure how to spell it wait and see what pops up.

    +What is a primary tag?
A primary tag is the main tag of a picture.

+Which tag should be the primary tag?
When there is one character depicted, the name of that character should be the primary tag. When multiple characters are depicted, the name of the series/game should be the primary tag or the artist if series is not applicable. When the picture is from an artbook, the name of the artbook may also be the primary tag.

    +What is a meta tag?
A meta tag is a special type of tag that should not be used directly on submitted pictures, but exclusively acts as a parent tag to other tags. However, most parent tags will be hybrid (both used directly on pics and a parent to other tags) and as such should not be a meta tag. There are only 4 meta tags at this time: Series (a list of all franchises), Mangaka & Studios (same for artists), Games (idem), and one for administrational purposes. Only administrators can make a tag a meta tag.

+Are there any other guidelines regarding picture tagging?
-For each entry, the name of the series and names of the depicted characters should be amongst the tags.
-When the picture is identified but is known to not be from a particular series/game; it should be tagged as 'Original'.
-Scanty clad girls should not necessarily be tagged Ecchi, provocative content however should always be tagged Ecchi.
-Subjective tags (adjectives) such as 'beautiful', ‘kawaii’, or 'ugly' should not be added. This is for most subjective adjectives not possible anyway.
-For indy art, the piece should have either a "Vector art" or "Member art" tag. For scans, please add a tag for the type of scan: “Male”, "Female", “monochrome scan”, etc. Use of these general theme tags (when applicable) will please the moderators. Usage of character tags and the new theme tags such as outfits worn ('school uniform', 'thigh highs') will please Sheqel.

+How can I add character tags to their series tag?
Only elite members or higher can do this. It is appreciated if you report hierarchical missing relations in the Tag Administration Thread*.

+I added a wrong tag but I can't seem to remove it.
Only the owners of a submission, or elite members and up can remove tags from submissions. It is not a big problem anyway, soon someone with that power will come along and fix it. If you insist your error be corrected ASAP, you can report the incorrectly tagged submission as such.

+I can't figure out which spelling I should use?
Any common spelling will probably work.

+Can I search for multiple tags?
Yes. Just type them as you would in Google: "xxxholic couple".

+Retyping common tags each time becomes bothersome.
A lot of common tags have shortcuts or acceptable abbreviations. These are listed amongst the aliases for each tag. (located in a box on the left side of the page) Examples:
    F = Females
    M = Males
    H = Ecchi
    S = School uniform
Code geass = Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
    CCS = Card Captor Sakura
    Br = Brown hair
    neko = nekomimi
These aliases work everywhere tags can be typed: tag addition, search and uploading. If you find yourself using a tag a lot you can see if it has a short alias; if it doesn't you can propose one in the Tag Administration Thread.

As with new features, there are probably bugs and room for improvement. You can always give your feedback in the forum: MT Tagging System

    B/ MAI-CHAN'S MAILBAG
This month’s mail has been answered by fireflywishes

Quote by yothsothgoth I'm writing this because I'm curious about when I might possibly be able to read the next issue of Mt-Maigetsu. I know it’s been a long time, but I thought someone might be working on it... really slowly... or something. I also want to know what happened to Popular Chan. *insert dramatic music here* Is the search for people to assist with writing articles going well?
I didn't realize how much I've missed the updates, articles, and everything. Please come back soon!
Thanks so much for reading this!

Well, thanks for sticking with us yothsothgoth! Here is the long awaited 16th Issue! Hopefully it will have been worth the wait! As for our dear departed Popular-chan, according to the last issue, she has been banned from MT! T_T But in her place is our very own (oftentimes abused) botchii, with Ask Botchii! Keep on reading and let us know what you think!

Finally, as far as help goes, what we would love the most is hearing from you, the readers! Let us know what you’d like to see more of! Tell us what to watch for the Anime Spotlight! Nominate your underappreciated groups/new MT artists! As we’ve always said, Mai-chan loves getting mail!

Quote by nikko3I would like to know if this thread is still working? Request Signature/Avatars here

Thanks for writing nikko! Well, since I don't personally participate in the making of such things, I directed your question to melymay. She responded back to me that even though it seems the thread is inactive, she still checks in on the thread and does what she can. Also, the two of us cleaned up the thread so all of the fulfilled posts should be deleted now.

SO! What does this mean for you? If you want an avatar or signature, but are not computer savvy, then please feel free to put in a request (be as specific as possible and provide images) and one of your fellow members will make a superAWESOME icon and/or sig just for you!

Conversely, if you are one of our computer savvy artists here at MT and have some free time on your hands, please stop by the thread and take some requests! I'm sure that melymay would appreciate any help that she can get. Just make sure that you post in the thread whenever you take a request.

    C/ ASK BOTCHII!

    Quote: Hello BotChii,
My name is Miss Pleasure, tall and slim, I love dancing and meeting new people. I viewed your profile at this site Minitokyo.net and was intrigued and wish to know more about you. I know you are not the kind that judges by appearance alone, but I am ready to send you my pictures anyway. Please email me at misspleasure@findtruelove.com and we can begin our romance. Remember it is not age, race, or gender that matters, but true love.
    Thanks,
    Miss Pleasure
    misspleasure@findtruelove.com

*Sigh*... I roll my eyes as I hit the "ban" button. It's not fair, my sister Mai-chan is so loved and gets all these interesting letters, and what do I get? Stuff like this!

I mean, I do a lot of important work around Minitokyo, helping to moderate the gallery, keep the forums clean, read reports, send deletion messages that nobody ever reads, and then they complain about it. I mean yeah, it feels unfair to have things deleted, but most of the time, if they'd bothered reading the Policy, they'd know not to submit them in the first place, or try using the Sandbox or other resources. I'm not out to get anyone, just trying to keep Minitokyo a fun place with high-quality images. I'm not saying not to complain if you feel the deletion is unfair either, but I wish they'd read and ask if the Policy is unclear to them.

So I made a deal with Mai-chan that she share her Inbox with me and give me a section. Here's your chance Minitokyo, if there's something you want to ask me, please send them to MT-Maigetsu with the subject "DEAR BOTCHII", and I'll try to answer them, if I feel like it. I hope I get more letters than Mai-chan.. if not, I'll just hijack some of hers, ha!

    D/ ANIME SPOTLIGHT

    http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7140/michikotohatchinost2.th.jpg http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/5880/77013616.th.jpg

In a small Latin American town, a young girl dreams to be freed from her abusive foster parents. Her wishes come true when an escaped convict leaps through the dinner room window on a teal motorbike and asks her to help her find her mysterious father. Together, they travel the distance to find a man they thought they knew while experiencing the barren but lively existence shared by their fellow countrymen.

It's been a few seasons since the last promising title in this genre popped up--and Michiko to Hatchin certainly lives up to expectations. With deep Latin American vibes and subtle storytelling, the series manages to pull the audience in for a look at several storylines loosely tied together through Michiko's (the vixen convict) past. While their search for Hatchin's father--Michiko's former lover--provides a stimulus for their journey, it acts more as a literary tool to pull the characters through a myopic look at the lives of their fellow countrymen. It is difficult for me to find a favorite among the subplots as they all took a decently honest and heartfelt look at how people in less developed nations survive--though I found the more dramatic subplots (i.e human trafficking) of rather mediocre execution.

Michiko and Hatchin act as foils for one another: Michiko, the adult, acts childish and impulsive while Hatchin, the child, behaves responsibly. Most reviewers seemed to enjoy this chemistry but I found it lukewarm and underdeveloped. While Hatchin's character failed to impress(her relationship with her abusive parents never felt present and her "maturity" seemed a pretentious addition), Michiko was developed extensively throughout the series and the characters associated with her past succeeded in hooking my attention. In fact, I personally preferred watching the minor characters in the series--their stories were deeply entrenched in their impoverished situations, yet the livelihood with which they confronted adversity became truly inspirational.

The series boasts a strong soundtrack and voice acting, nicely echoing an image of a boundless road, sprawled before Michiko, Hatchin, and the people they met. The Latin traces are very apparent in the bold color schemes: cyan skies splashed with vivid turquoise and deep reds. The combination of brilliant sound and great animation certainly makes this anime worth watching, even if it falls short of the true geniuses in the genre (see Cowboy Bebop + Samurai Champloo). So be sure to check this out for a look at something different than your run-of-the-mill titles!

P.S. After a quick check, Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo fame was indeed involved in the soundtrack. Sayo Yamamoto, who directed Michiko to Hatchin, also played an important role in the making of Samurai Champloo. Good to see that these people are still making shows >3.

E/ GET TO KNOW YOUR MT STAFF

Heya, MT peoples! Mai-chan is back, and we're on to interviewing another Elite member; Tama-Neko! (Note: This month's interview was conducted by Bernouli!)
    -----------------------------

Tama, you've been an Elite member for as long as I can remember! How long exactly?

I'm not sure, actually. According to the elite-members group, I've been a member since October 2004. I can't quite recall whether groups came first, or I became an elite member first. They were fairly close together chronologically, so let's just say I've been an elite since late 2004 ;)

You and your artwork are admired by a lot of people. (including me XD) Is there a waller/artist that you really admire?

I haven't been keeping up much lately with walls and wallers. However, when I first started as a waller, I greatly admired the works of Cynical126. I believe it was her walls that really got me started in walling.
I'm also fond of more artsy styled walls, sort of like the creations of flyindreams and crapmonster, as well as a number of candy-chan's walls.

What is one of your favorite/best memories about Minitokyo?

Playing Graffiti (a Pictionary clone) with a number of Minitokyo IRC folks, like Osiris, RavenIsUnskilled, et. all. Additionally, running the rounds of Which?Waller were entertaining, as I watched people try and guess who made the walls!

What is the first anime you ever watched? What was your impression of it?

Probably Sailor Moon on TV. Rather a typical show to get into during high school. I liked the art style (it was quite a departure from the standard Warner Bros cartoons I typically watched).

Super Special awesome random question time! What is your favorite snack, food, and drink of all time?

Drink: Milk Tea (specifically, Gogo no kocha by Kirin). It's tea, and milk, and sugar, in a bottle. Full of win.
Snack: That's a little harder to say. I'm fond of way too many chocolate snacks, like Flipz or Scharffenberger tasting squares of 70% bittersweet. However, I recently discovered the addictiveness of ketchup chips. It's a good thing they don't stock those in the US.
Food: I can't decide. I love food in general.

What is your most favorite movie of all time?

Hmm... I'm not that much into movies. Give me a good sci-fi novel any day! However, something I can always watch is The Princess Bride. It's all about twuu wuuuv.

What kind of pets do you have, or have had in the past?

I don't have any pets. I had a series of goldfish as a kid. Once we had a bunch of sailfin molllies. Fish are pretty boring pets, unless you have one of those fancy tropical seawater aquariums. In the future, I'd love to have a cat, either a tabby or a calico.

Name the top five anime you like the most.

Oh dear, I'm going to totally date myself on this:
    1) Kino's Journey
    2) Mushishi
    3) The Vision of Escaflowne
    4) Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind
    5) The Rose of Versailles

Do you believe in ghosts or aliens at all?

Don't particularly believe in ghosts, although I believe there are some phenomena we can't adequately explain yet, which people tend to attribute to ghosts because they convenient. I hope there are (intelligent) aliens out there in the universe, because otherwise, as someone (whom I don't remember, really) has said, "It's a great waste of space."

And to wrap the interview up; As an elite member, do you have any advice for the new elites, or any of our members who might be aspiring to take on this role in the future?

Just keep helping the Minitokyo community grow and mature. It's great to see members take an active role in topics they feel passionate about. Without that type of participation, this site would just be a boring place to snag pretty pictures; instead it becomes destination for all sorts of discussion and creative discovery.

    -------------------------------------
That concludes this month's "Get to Know Your MT Staff!" Thanks again to our new Elite Member, Bernouli for conducting the interview! Remember minna-san, if you have a member of the staff that you'd like to know more about or would like to submit a question, send it to (fireflywishes) via PM.

    F/ FEATURED MEMBER

    http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/3938/featuredmember.jpg

The MT staff would love to recognize Sinever for her bright, cheery vitality and commitment to making all members feel at home. Her gallery provides inspiration for those looking for neat, clean technique and bright pastels, or just gorgeous desktops for avid VK fans like herself.

But in all honesty, her vibrant personality and deep dedication to encouraging MT wallers has separated her from the rest. Always supportive and always friendly, she has made a huge impact on the community. Of course, we can never forget how much time and effort she has put into Vector-Wallers which has become one of the most active groups to date. Thank you Sin-chan and keep up the great work <3!

http://static.minitokyo.net/groups/chamber-of-kings.gif OK. Seriously. How has this group not been brought to MT before? For fangirls everywhere, this group unites the vast collection of bishielicious walls in attempts to ease our endless appetites. Although new to the MT group scene, Chamber of Kings has already amassed an impressive list of members--but really, did we expect anything else?

With a monthly highlight system and seasonal contests coupled with activities, this group is sure to please (mind, body and soul yo >D) So check it out and bring on the tasties!

segnoj has been cranking out great original works recently, and this piece is no exception. The water is beautifully done with its subtle transitioning between warm and cool colors, and serene ripples as the little boat trudges along to its destination. And the sweet Sleeping Zuru just adds to this wonderful calm scene and really does make you wanna drift off to sleep. <3
